American Woman in Wales: Cultural Contrasts & Greggs Obsession

-

An American woman who relocated to Wales recently shared the significant cultural differences she encountered right after settling in. Known as Tim Tam Travels on social platforms, she highlighted the surprising aspects she noticed upon moving to the UK, describing them as entirely new experiences compared to her life in the US.

Temilorun, now 24, made the move from Georgia in the US to Cardiff in South Wales in 2023 for her university studies. In one of her TikTok videos, she marveled at the picturesque countryside and mentioned her initial astonishment at seeing sheep in unconventional locations. Additionally, she expressed admiration for the beaches in Wales, emphasizing their vastness and serenity. Notable remarks from her included the absence of air conditioning, a revelation that caught her off guard during the previous summer, and the sight of tractors on open roads, a novelty for her.

However, the most striking discovery for her was a British bakery chain she hadn’t heard of until arriving in the country. Sharing her newfound love for Greggs, she confessed to becoming obsessed with it over time.

In response to her post, one user commended her appreciation for Wales, emphasizing the distinction between Wales as a country and not merely a town in England. Another user recommended that she download the Greggs app for a better experience and suggested using TooGoodToGo to find discounted items from the bakery. A different user expressed nostalgia for Wales and recommended trying Joes ice cream in Swansea for a unique treat.

Her exploration videos showcased her adventures in Wales, including tasting cockles and laverbread for the first time. While Welsh delicacies like laverbread didn’t become her favorite snacks, she expressed contentment with the overall Welsh experience, noting Welsh Cakes as her personal favorite.
