Constitution Hill’s Comeback Uncertain Despite Clear Vision

-

Constitution Hill underwent a thorough eye examination recently following a series of mishaps during races. The once dominant eight-year-old had an impeccable record until last season, winning all ten starts under rules.

Troubles started in January when he made errors in his performances, notably hitting the last flight during a warm-up race for the Cheltenham Festival. Despite being a strong favorite for the Champion Hurdle, his race ended prematurely with a fall at an early stage.

Expectations were high for a comeback at Aintree, but he fell again near the end of the race. His subsequent fifth-place finish at the Punchestown Champion Hurdle left him with minor injuries and discomfort.

As the core jumps season approaches, Constitution Hill is not a frontrunner in the betting market, currently listed at 12-1 odds behind The New Lion trained by Dan Skelton. Despite this, his trainer remains optimistic about his prospects.

The trainer mentioned that they conducted various tests on the horse, including an eye examination similar to an equine vision specialist. Results showed no significant issues, even after rigorous scans from head to toe following his falls.

Describing the past season as challenging, the trainer expressed disappointment over Constitution Hill’s setbacks, particularly in the Champion Hurdle. The horse’s uncharacteristic jumping behavior has baffled experts, given his exceptional hurdling skills.

Looking ahead, Constitution Hill is set to compete in upcoming races such as the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day. The trainer remains hopeful that the horse will return to form and overcome his recent difficulties.
