“Mercedes EQS with Solid-State Battery Travels Record 748 Miles”

-

A Mercedes EQS, utilizing a solid-state battery, has accomplished an impressive feat by traveling 748 miles on a single charge. The journey commenced in Stuttgart, Germany, and concluded in Malmo, Sweden, without requiring a battery recharge, with 85 miles of range still available.

Equipped with a solid-state battery known for its higher energy density, the vehicle achieved extended range and quicker charging times. Moreover, the elimination of the flammable liquid electrolyte enhances safety, and the durability of a solid-state unit surpasses that of a traditional lithium-ion battery.

The standard EQS model offers a choice between a 96kWh or a 118kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing claimed electric ranges of 409 miles and 481 miles, respectively.

Markus Schäfer, the chief technology officer of Mercedes-Benz Group, emphasized the transformative impact of solid-state battery technology in electric mobility. He stated, “The successful long-distance drive of the EQS demonstrates that this technology is practical not only in controlled environments but also on real roads. Our objective is to integrate innovations like this into mass production by the end of the decade, offering customers enhanced range and comfort.”

Mercedes has a strategic aim to incorporate solid-state battery technology into its vehicles by the end of the decade, facilitating a smoother transition to electric vehicles for potential buyers.
