“Police Probe Ice Cream Distribution by Young Councillor”

-

A police investigation is underway regarding a young Reform councillor who allegedly distributed ice creams outside a polling station during the recent local elections. Joseph Boam, a Reform candidate for Whitwick and former deputy leader of Leicestershire County Council, is facing scrutiny for potential voter influence tactics. The 22-year-old, who resigned from his roles last month, was captured on video in May giving out ice creams while campaigning for Reform UK in North West Leicestershire.

Reportedly, an ice cream van belonging to Boam’s family was stationed near the polling station. Leicestershire Police acknowledged receiving a report about the van’s presence on polling day from a third party. Authorities are now assessing whether this incident violates electoral malpractice laws.

According to electoral regulations, providing any form of inducement to influence voting decisions is considered an offence. This investigation follows Boam’s recent departure from his positions within the county council due to his reported inability to fulfill his duties.

Despite previous denials of resignation or dismissal, Boam has not commented on the ongoing situation. The Mirror has reached out to Reform UK and Councillor Boam for their responses.

In other news, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has announced plans to deport 600,000 migrants within five years if his party secures victory in the upcoming election. Farage also proposed allocating £2 billion to support war-torn countries like Afghanistan in repatriating migrants, with potential sanctions for non-cooperating nations.
