Police have been urged to initiate an inquiry following the discovery of six bodies wrapped in plastic, their faces obscured and bound, in an area notorious for criminal activities. Authorities suspect that the victims, comprising four men and two women, were murdered before being callously abandoned. The incident took place in Zacatecas, Mexico, with the bodies found in the Jalisco region, sparking a dispute between the Zacatecas government and the local Attorney General’s Office over the relocation theory.
Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, the general secretary of Zacatecas, stated that neither the Ministry of Public Security nor the State Attorney General’s Office had confirmed the alleged find. Authorities have called on the police to investigate the distressing discovery, with Mugüerza expressing agreement with Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro’s stance that the case should be handled by the Attorney General’s Office.
Despite the ongoing disagreement between law enforcement and local officials, the motive behind these tragic deaths remains undisclosed. Mugüerza emphasized that the primary focus for authorities currently is to apprehend those accountable for the six fatalities and the disposal of their bodies.
The region in Jalisco where the bodies were discarded is recognized for its proximity to several states and its association with criminal elements. Meanwhile, amidst these events, there are concerns in Mexico regarding the potential repercussions of the US government’s pursuit of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as El Mencho, especially with the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026 set to be hosted in Canada, the US, and Mexico. The Mexican government has implored US officials to exercise caution in their actions against the cartel leader to prevent any violent escalation.
A senior Jalisco cartel member recently disclosed that Oseguera’s security detail includes specialized commandos from Russia and advanced weaponry. Any significant operation against the drug lord could have devastating consequences for Guadalajara, one of the primary venues for international matches. Mexico intends to de-escalate hostilities ahead of the World Cup by suspending pursuits of cartel members as long as they maintain peace during the global sporting event.
