“UK Households to Receive £150 Electricity Bill Reduction”

-

Millions of households in the UK can expect to receive correspondence regarding the Warm Home Discount scheme on a confirmed date. This scheme provides a £150 reduction on electricity bills directly to the energy provider. Eligible recipients will be notified by mail starting on October 20 if they were receiving specific benefits on August 24.

Residents in England and Wales will automatically receive the Warm Home Discount, while in Scotland, automatic payment is contingent on receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. For other qualifying benefits, manual application through the energy supplier is necessary. Notably, there is no Warm Home Discount scheme in Northern Ireland.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has eliminated the requirement for high energy usage criteria for the Warm Home Discount in England and Wales. This change could potentially increase the number of households benefiting from the scheme to an estimated 6.1 million, up by 2.7 million.

Additionally, Ofgem has announced an increase in the price cap for energy bills from £1,720 to £1,755 per typical dual fuel household paying by direct debit. This adjustment will take effect on October 1 and remain in place until December 31, subject to further updates. The price cap applies to standard variable rate (SVR) tariffs, determining the maximum charge for gas and electricity units along with fixed daily standing charges.
