Jillian Shriner, the spouse of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been granted entry into a two-year mental health diversion program following allegations of firing shots at police officers during a manhunt in her residential area in Los Angeles.
The incident occurred in April in Eagle Rock, where law enforcement was in pursuit of three suspects who had eluded capture after a freeway collision. During the search, Shriner reportedly discharged a firearm, causing commotion on the local street.
The agreement was confirmed by the LA County District Attorney’s office today, indicating that if Jillian successfully fulfills the diversion conditions, the court will dismiss the case against her.
Authorities reported that officers observed Jillian, also known as Jillian Lauren, outside her house armed with a handgun. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, she allegedly proceeded to shoot at the officers. In response, she was shot in the shoulder by an LAPD officer and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the incident, footage depicted Jillian being handcuffed barefoot and escorted to a police vehicle. She was subsequently arrested on charges of attempted murder, later released on $1 million bail.
Law enforcement recovered a 9-millimeter handgun from the Shriner residence. A babysitter detained during the confrontation was eventually released.
Scott Shriner, her husband, was spotted walking their dogs near their home the next day, expressing optimism about seeing fans at Coachella and assuring that his wife was doing well. The couple, married since 2005, have two adopted children.
Under the terms of the diversion program overseen by LA County Superior Court Judge Susan De Witt, Jillian is mandated to stay drug and alcohol-free, attend regular therapy sessions, undergo random testing, participate in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings thrice weekly, and refrain from possessing firearms or knives. Any violations could result in the termination of the program and a return to court. A progress report is scheduled for January 9.
The incident unfolded as police pursued three suspects who had fled a multi-car crash on the freeway. Witnesses described one suspect, injured and in his underwear, attempting to hide in a swimming pool near the Shriner residence.
Beyond her personal life, Jillian Shriner is a successful nonfiction author. Weezer, established in 1992 and recognized for hit songs like “Say It Ain’t So,” includes members Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner. The band has a sold-out show planned in London for this year.
