A significant Coventry thoroughfare was closed off today after an unexploded bomb was discovered in Radford earlier (September 13). Authorities were notified about a hand grenade found in a garden on Beake Avenue, prompting the deployment of police to the area. To ensure public safety, a substantial cordon was established near Chesholme Road, leading to traffic diversions.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) was called in at approximately 11:15 am to assess the situation. Coventry Police confirmed that after thorough examinations, the device was found to be inert, as reported by Coventry Live. Subsequently, Beake Avenue has been reopened, and traffic is now running smoothly, according to West Midlands Roads.
A spokesperson from Coventry Police commented, “We were alerted to a potential hand grenade in a Beake Avenue garden in Coventry earlier today. An Army EOD team attended the scene and determined that the device was harmless, leading to the lifting of the cordon.”
WM Roads shared an update stating, “The earlier disruptions have been resolved, and traffic is back to normal in the vicinity.”
