Being an avid reader, I have a habit of consuming books, often finishing several novels every week. However, the more I read, the better I become at anticipating the endings of books.
While I don’t mind this tendency and enjoy indulging in a romance novel filled with familiar tropes occasionally, discovering a book that exceeds all my expectations is truly rewarding. Unexpected twists, surprising antagonists, and unconventional endings always find a special place on my bookshelf.
Considering this, I want to highlight five books I’ve read this year that kept me on my toes until the very last page, spanning various genres such as literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and non-fiction, as detailed in a report by the Express.
In the novel “The Rabbit Club,” an American teenager finds himself entangled in the secretive and manipulative world of the Saracens, an elite clandestine society, upon arriving in Oxford. As his aspirations intensify, the lines between reality and illusion blur, setting off a series of events with unforeseeable consequences.
Reading this gripping dark academia thriller was a truly mind-bending experience, surpassing my expectations with its dark and intricate narrative. The conclusion left me astonished, prompting me to immediately dive back into the book to uncover any missed details.
If you’re seeking an engaging autumn read, “The Rabbit Club” is the perfect choice for a deep dive into a captivating story.

In “King Sorrow,” a novel by Joe Hill, six friends make a deadly pact with a dragon. Arthur, Gwen, Colin, Donna, Van, and Allie navigate four decades where they must choose a new victim for King Sorrow every Easter or face dire consequences themselves.
Despite its nearly 900 pages, one might assume parts of the novel could be tedious or foreseeable. However, “King Sorrow” takes readers on an unpredictable and genre-defying journey, filled with unexpected twists and turns that caught me off guard.
While I was fortunate to receive an early copy, the novel will be officially released later this month.

For those who appreciate gripping narratives featuring morally ambiguous characters, “Make Me Famous” is a must-read. The story follows Cléo, an aspiring singer convinced of her inevitable rise to stardom.
We follow her journey to fame and witness her retreat to a secluded island after releasing several albums, where she works on her fourth album. Twisted and enthralling, “Make Me Famous” takes a surprising turn that left me breathless.
