OVO has announced a generous initiative to provide complimentary energy-saving products valued at £56 million to assist during the upcoming winter season. The support package encompasses free electric blankets, smart sockets, and home efficiency kits. Additionally, OVO is offering other forms of aid such as free energy upgrades like loft insulation, new boilers, or heat pumps.
Moreover, enhanced financial assistance is available for individuals facing difficulties, including reductions in direct debit payments, emergency credit top-ups, and extended repayment options. While the support from OVO is ongoing throughout the year, applications for increased winter support will be open starting in October. Notably, OVO has already contributed £190 million in support since 2022 and aided 42,000 customers last year.
David Buttress, the CEO of OVO, emphasized the company’s commitment to assisting those in need through collaboration with charity partners and the implementation of their largest customer support package to date. He stressed that while the current support is crucial, a long-term solution involves improving the energy system for all, starting with targeted initiatives like a social tariff to ensure no one is left behind.
Warm Welcome Campaign Director, David Barclay, highlighted the importance of accessible and safe support environments, expressing satisfaction in partnering with OVO once again to offer practical assistance through Warm Welcome Spaces nationwide during the challenging winter months.
Vikki Brownridge, CEO of StepChange debt charity, commended the ongoing partnership with OVO, emphasizing the crucial support it provides to customers grappling with energy bill challenges, especially amid rising costs of living. She underscored the significance of OVO’s Extra Support program in assisting individuals with energy arrears and broader financial difficulties.
In light of the impending increase in energy bills this winter, with the Ofgem price cap set to rise from £1,720 to £1,755 on October 1, OVO’s latest polling data revealed high levels of concern among consumers. An overwhelming 91% of respondents expressed worry about their winter bills, with 71% reporting increased anxiety compared to the previous year.
