Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell, is still grappling with the sudden loss of his father, describing the family as “heartbroken.” The renowned boxer was tragically discovered deceased at his residence in Manchester on September 14, sending shockwaves through the boxing community and prompting an outpouring of tributes. While the cause of death remains undisclosed, authorities have clarified that there is no suspicion of foul play, with a scheduled funeral set for October 10.
Following in his father’s footsteps, 24-year-old Campbell pursued a career in professional boxing and shared a close bond with Hatton. He acknowledged the overwhelming support and homage to ‘The Hitman’ from the public, which has provided solace amidst profound sorrow.
Campbell expressed, “We are absolutely devastated – the news was completely unexpected… Our upcoming plans have been thrown into disarray, but we are endeavoring to support one another through this difficult time.” He emphasized the tremendous comfort derived from the widespread support while underscoring the depth of their sorrow.
The funeral procession honoring Hatton will commence from Gee Cross, his hometown, passing through Hyde en route to Manchester Cathedral, concluding at the Etihad Stadium, home to Manchester City, a team he cherished. The memorial service, ticketed for attendance, is scheduled at Manchester Cathedral, with the family encouraging a strong public presence along the procession route as a display of solidarity.
Campbell highlighted, “That’s precisely what he would have wished for. His most cherished accomplishment was his fanbase, and that’s what brought him the greatest pride. He would have wanted the streets filled with people… because everything he did, he did for his fans.”
Notably resembling his father, Campbell reflected on their profound connection, reminiscing, “He used to refer to me as his little Mini-Me. Our similarities were striking, evident in our close relationship and shared banter. To many, he was Ricky Hatton the boxer, but to me, he was simply my dad, known as Richard to the family. We are struggling to comprehend it at present.”
In a poignant social media tribute post following Hatton’s passing, Campbell shared cherished photos of them together, expressing deep admiration and lamenting the loss of their shared laughter and precious moments. The heartfelt message conveyed his profound grief and enduring love for his father.
