An estimated 110,000 to 150,000 individuals participated in Saturday’s demonstration organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, with counter-protests also taking place. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer criticized the event, denouncing it as “plastic patriotism” during an interview with Channel 4 News. Starmer expressed concerns about the impact the rally had on various communities, stating that it heightened fear among the populace.

Starmer also associated the rally with Reform UK, underscoring his commitment to championing the Labour Party’s patriotic cause against what he described as divisive and chaotic forces. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, condemned the violence against law enforcement officers at a press briefing, acknowledging the majority of rally attendees as concerned citizens opposed to the current state of affairs in the country.

During the event, projectiles were hurled at police officers, resulting in injuries to 26 officers, including four severe cases. Law enforcement apprehended 24 individuals on charges ranging from affray to criminal damage. Eight of the suspects have been formally charged, while one received a caution and 11 were released on bail pending further investigations.

The Metropolitan Police disclosed that eight individuals have been charged in connection with Saturday’s rally. The Mirror has reached out to the Met for additional commentary.
