Boxing icon Ricky Hatton, a former world welterweight and light-welterweight champion, will be laid to rest on Friday, October 10. He was tragically found dead at his residence in Hyde, Greater Manchester, last month at the age of 46.
The funeral procession details have been confirmed, outlining the route the legendary British athlete’s coffin will follow. The cortege will commence from Gee Cross, passing through Hyde towards Manchester Cathedral, and concluding at the Etihad Stadium, the home ground of Manchester City, a team dear to Hatton.
Beginning at the Cheshire Cheese pub on Stockport Road, Hyde, at approximately 9:45 am, the procession will proceed to various locations including Harehill Tavern, The New Inn where doves will be released, Hatton’s Gym, Hyde Town Hall, Betta Bodies Gym, and the AO Arena.
Following a private memorial service at the cathedral at noon, the procession will move to the Etihad Stadium, where a touching tribute moved Hatton’s son, Campbell, before a recent match against Burnley. Although the cathedral service is by invitation only, the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects as the funeral cortege passes through the city.
