Pizza Hut in the UK is planning to shut down 68 of its restaurants and 11 delivery locations, resulting in the loss of 1,210 jobs. The franchisee of Pizza Hut dine-in restaurants, DC London Pie Limited, has appointed FTI Consulting as administrators. However, Yum! Brands, the global owner of Pizza Hut, has intervened to save 64 locations and 1,277 jobs through a pre-pack administration process.
In a pre-pack administration, the sale of a business or its assets is agreed upon before the formal administration begins. A spokesperson for Pizza Hut UK confirmed the acquisition of Pizza Hut dine-in operations through a pre-packaged administration by Yum! Brands to safeguard guest experiences and jobs.
Nicolas Burquier, Managing Director of Pizza Hut Europe and Canada, emphasized the importance of maintaining operational continuity and supporting employees during the transition. Directional Capital had taken over 139 Pizza Hut restaurants earlier in January 2025, saving 3,000 jobs after the collapse of the previous operator, Heart with Smart Limited.
DC London Pie was established by Directional Capital to operate Pizza Hut restaurants in the UK. The first Pizza Hut in the UK opened in Islington, London in 1973, and at its peak, the chain had over 260 restaurants nationwide with 10,000 employees.
The closure of several struggling businesses has been a recent trend. Poundland underwent a major restructure after being sold to an investment firm for £1, resulting in the closure of dozens of stores. Bodycare, a beauty chain, closed all its stores after collapsing into administration, leading to the permanent closure of multiple locations.
