“Snow and Rain Forecast for UK as Cold Snap Hits”

-

Britons are in for a weather change this weekend as snowfall is anticipated across the country. Following a warm and dry summer, the start of September has been marked by unsettled weather conditions, which are expected to persist in the upcoming days. Last weekend and into Monday, stormy weather brought heavy rain and gusts reaching up to 74mph in the Isle of Wight. The forecast indicates more inclement weather ahead, with the possibility of snow flurries accompanying a cold northerly wind.

BBC weather forecaster Elizabeth Rizzini highlighted two significant weather features to watch out for. Firstly, a substantial amount of rainfall, ranging between 75mm to 100mm, is expected in parts of northwest England and North Wales over the weekend, potentially leading to localized flooding. Secondly, there will be a noticeable contrast in temperatures, with Friday set to be relatively warm, reaching the mid-20Cs, before a sharp drop to near 0C by the early hours of Sunday.

Weather maps illustrate a low-pressure system over the country on Saturday, with snow flurries predicted in southern Scotland and the northeast of England overnight into Sunday. The sudden temperature shift is expected to be striking, transitioning from a warm Friday to a significantly colder Sunday, as the low-pressure system introduces strong gusty winds and heavy rainfall across various regions.

As the weekend approaches, the Met Office has issued yellow warnings for rain in northern England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with the potential for snowfall by the end of the weekend. Meteorologist Tom Crabtree emphasized the expected rainfall amounts and highlighted the likelihood of strong winds and possible thunderstorms, urging the public to stay informed about evolving weather conditions.
