“Paul Gascoigne Opens Up About Alcohol Struggle”

Paul Gascoigne appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday and shared that he is currently in a good place in life. The former Newcastle United, Tottenham, and England football star was on the ITV breakfast show to promote his latest book, Eight.

During the interview with hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid, Gascoigne opened up about his ongoing struggle with alcohol addiction. He admitted that alcohol no longer agrees with him and shared his experiences of being a “sad drunk” compared to his earlier days as a “happy drunk.”

Reflecting on his relationship with alcohol, Gascoigne expressed the challenges of managing his addiction and how he sometimes falls into short periods of drinking despite trying to stay sober. He acknowledged the impact it has on his self-esteem and emphasized the importance of attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to confront his alcoholism.

When asked about the difficulty of completely giving up alcohol, Gascoigne mentioned his past attempts at sobriety, highlighting the ups and downs of his journey. He emphasized the role of his new book, Eight, in sharing his personal struggles and aiming to help others facing similar challenges.

In his book, Gascoigne recounted a past incident where he was involved in a hit-and-run while driving under the influence. He shared details of the event, including his initial reactions and the legal consequences he faced alongside his friend.

Gascoigne’s book, Eight, published by Reach Sport, will be available for purchase starting October 23rd.
