“Google Announces Upcoming Gmail Address Modification Feature”

-

Gmail users could soon see a long-awaited enhancement to their accounts. Google is reportedly preparing a significant update that will allow users to modify their email addresses, a feature that has been unavailable until now. Previously, users were required to create a new account if they desired a different email address after setting up an @gmail.com address.

Recently, tech enthusiasts at 9to5Google noticed indications that Google is gearing up to enable users to make substantial changes to their accounts. A support document outlines the process, which involves automatically redirecting emails from the old address to the new one.

This forthcoming update could be well-received by individuals who created their accounts in the past and now wish to alter their email addresses due to personal preferences or life changes.

Google clarified, “The email address linked to your Google Account is the one used for signing in to Google services and serves as a unique identifier for your account. If you wish, you can switch your existing gmail.com address to a new gmail.com address.”

Both the old and new email addresses will receive emails, and all data saved in the account, such as photos, messages, and emails sent to the previous address, will remain intact.

As of now, there is no precise timeline for the release of this feature to users or specific regions. Notably, Google’s initial announcement was made solely through a support document in Hindi, hinting that users in India might be among the first to access it.

Google is expected to disclose further details soon for users looking to change their current email address to something new.
