A van driver had a lucky escape when a deer crashed through the windshield during a frightening accident. The deer’s antlers were left protruding from the Opel van’s glass after the collision in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The 29-year-old driver couldn’t avoid the sudden leap of the animal in front of his van at 7 am, resulting in a full-force impact. Fortunately, the driver sustained only minor injuries, but the deer was severely hurt and had to be euthanized by a hunter on the scene.
The collision caused significant damage to the van, with repair expenses estimated at around €15,000 (£13,100) as reported by Bild. Firefighters were summoned to remove the vehicle, and the road was closed for an hour for cleanup.
Authorities in Germany are now cautioning drivers to be vigilant for wildlife, especially on rural roads, emphasizing how quickly a routine commute can turn deadly due to unexpected incidents.
In a separate incident last month, video footage captured a horse breaking free from its cart during a funeral procession in Dublin, crashing head-first into a car. The incident occurred in Clondalkin, a suburb west of Dublin, where a horse and carriage hearse were part of the procession alongside a cart pulled by horses. The cart suddenly accelerated, prompting attempts to divert traffic before colliding with a car.
Following the disturbing incident, an animal rescue charity called for an inquiry, denouncing the occurrence as “lawlessness and cruelty.” The horse was seen in a subsequent video with a swollen face and head, receiving medical attention with optimistic prospects for recovery.
