“Netflix Secures Film Adaptation Deal for Unreleased Game ‘Kingmakers'”

-

A highly anticipated action-strategy game is in talks for a movie adaptation, even though it has not yet been released to players.

Titled “Kingmakers,” the game is one of the most wished-for titles on Steam, where players are tasked with combatting medieval soldiers using modern weapons like AK-47s and grenade launchers.

Described as an epic action/strategy sandbox, players are invited to travel back to a war-torn medieval period, altering history with a range of cutting-edge weaponry while safeguarding the future.

The game allows players to construct their kingdoms, arm themselves with firearms, and lead massive armies into real-time simulated battles either alone or in cooperative play.

Despite the absence of an official release date following a postponed early access launch in October, interest from Hollywood remains strong.

Netflix has acquired a movie pitch based on the game, with Christopher MacBride set to write the script. The film is being developed by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps in collaboration with Story Kitchen.

The adaptation of video games into films and series is on the rise, with successful examples like “A Minecraft Movie,” which earned nearly $1 billion globally, and streaming hits such as Amazon Prime Video’s “Fallout” series and Netflix’s “The Witcher.”

Netflix’s pursuit of acquiring Warner Bros assets exceeding $72 billion coincides with this latest development in the entertainment industry.
