Keir Starmer emphasizes that the Battle of Britain anniversary serves as a reminder of the shared values that unite us all.

The Prime Minister is set to participate in the commemoration event at Westminster Abbey this Sunday, marking 85 years since the victory in World War II.

Following the ceremony, he will witness the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flyover, typically featuring an Avro Lancaster heavy bomber, a Supermarine Spitfire, and a Hawker Hurricane.

In a statement to the Mirror, Starmer reflected, “Today, we take a moment to honor the heroes of the Battle of Britain—those who bravely defended our skies, freedoms, and future against incredible odds.”

He added, “Their bravery was not just a display of military excellence but a significant demonstration of national unity and determination.”

Starmer highlighted that the anniversary signifies more than a pivotal moment in WWII—it underscores the enduring values that bind us, including duty, sacrifice, and the belief in Britain’s strength through unity.

He concluded, “Their legacy endures in the peace we cherish today and in our collective responsibility to uphold the freedoms they fought for. We will never forget their sacrifice.”

During the event, the Prime Minister will meet with various dignitaries, including the Dean of Westminster, Squadron Leader Charlie Warden, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, and the Chief of the Air Staff.

Also in attendance will be Marshal of the Royal Air Force, The Lord Craig, the sole surviving officer in the British Armed Forces to have held a five-star rank while on active duty.
