“Beware: Amazon Customers Targeted in New Product Recall Scam”

-

A new scam targeting Amazon customers who made purchases in March has emerged, falsely claiming a “product recall” has been initiated. The fraudulent text message, received by UK phone users, starts with an alert stating “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”

The message offers a full refund to recipients and prompts them to click a link to sign in to their Amazon account. It also urges immediate discontinuation of product use to add urgency to the situation.

In the message, it states, “Dear Customer, we are informing you of a product recall affecting an item from your March 2026 order due to a design defect that could pose a safety risk. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your attention to this safety issue. Thank you for trusting Amazon.”

Despite its alarming tone, this message is a phishing scam aiming to deceive concerned customers into revealing their login details, which could lead to unauthorized purchases, account lockouts, or personal data breaches if followed through.

While this particular scam is recent, Amazon customers have been targeted before. In February, cybercriminals spread similar messages about a recalled item for safety reasons, directing users to a fake Amazon page.

Amazon has advised caution regarding scams that pressure individuals to act quickly, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious activities to safeguard accounts and involve law enforcement.

Customers are also warned to be wary of unfamiliar phone numbers or texts, unexpected order/delivery messages, and links with misspellings, unusual formatting, or non-standard URLs to protect themselves from potential scams.
