Thousands of households may qualify for £300 in energy assistance this winter. The Blackpool Council is providing this support through its Household Support Fund. Eligible households of one or two individuals, including children, can receive £200, while households of three or more individuals, including children, may receive £300.
To be eligible for this aid, individuals must be facing financial difficulties and struggling to cover their expenses. Applicants will need to provide recent bank statements for all household members. It is not necessary to be receiving Universal Credit or other benefits to apply, but only one award can be claimed within a 12-month period.
The payment will be sent directly to the energy provider and will be reflected as a credit on the energy bill or pre-payment meter. Applications can be made through the Blackpool Council website. Residents outside Blackpool should inquire with their local council about potential support available through the Household Support Fund.
Other councils are also offering assistance. For instance, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is distributing £120 in vouchers to eligible residents. City of York Council is providing one-off £100 payments to those receiving help with their council tax bill. Portsmouth City Council is granting £150 to single-person households and £200 to couples or families meeting income criteria.
Residents in York have already been notified by the council and given instructions to apply online using a unique reference number. Eligibility for assistance is based on household income and receipt of specific benefits. Ensure to check with your local council for available support.
