“Resident Evil Requiem Revives Classic Saving System”

-

Capcom is gearing up for the release of Resident Evil Requiem, which is just around the corner. The latest showcase provided fans with a more detailed preview of what to expect from the game. One key feature that was highlighted is the return of a challenging saving mechanic that will appeal to hardcore players.

Unlike many modern games that offer a mix of auto and manual save options to ease the burden of replaying large sections after dying, Capcom is reintroducing a classic saving method for Resident Evil Requiem. In the early Resident Evil titles, players could only save their progress by finding typewriters in safe rooms scattered throughout the game world. To save, players needed ink ribbons, which were limited and took up valuable inventory space.

This traditional saving system, last seen in the Resident Evil 2 remake, will make a comeback in Resident Evil Requiem under the ‘Standard (Classic)’ difficulty mode when playing as Grace Ashcroft in the survival horror segments. Players will have to carefully manage their ink ribbons to save their progress strategically.

Interestingly, this saving mechanic will not be available when playing as Leon in the new Resident Evil installment, likely due to the more action-packed nature of his sections compared to Grace’s gameplay, which mirrors the classic Resident Evil experience.

For those who prefer a more accessible gameplay experience, the Standard (Modern) and Casual difficulty modes will offer the standard auto and manual save features. The reintroduction of ink ribbons has garnered positive feedback from fans, with some appreciating the added challenge it brings while others are glad it remains optional.

Apart from the saving system, Capcom also unveiled other exciting features during the Resident Evil 9 showcase. Players can expect a revamped combat system for Leon, allowing for targeted limb attacks and ammo conservation using a hatchet. Additionally, a new weapon called the ‘Requiem Gun,’ described as an ‘Assault Revolver’ with potent damage output but limited ammo capacity, was revealed.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Are you ready to dive into the challenges of the Standard (Classic) difficulty mode?
