Two young newlyweds tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident involving a suspected drunk driver. João Pedro Prudêncio Cardoso and Maynara França Schio were on a Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle when they collided with a black Ford Ecosport driven by Dyonatha Chaves Oliveira, 36, who was allegedly driving under the influence. The couple, who had recently gotten married on August 28, shared joyous moments from their wedding on social media. The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday on the PA-160 highway in Parauapebas, Brazil.
Following the incident, Oliveira, the suspect, received medical treatment and appeared in court the next day. He is facing charges of manslaughter aggravated by intoxication. While the prosecution argued for his preventive detention due to his alleged state of inebriation, the defense highlighted that he is a first-time offender with a stable residence and employment.
Ultimately, Judge Juliana Lima Souto Augusto granted bail set at £2,090 (BRL 15,000). Oliveira’s driver’s license was revoked, and he must report to court monthly, with restrictions on leaving the district without prior authorization. The investigation into the tragic deaths of the young couple is ongoing.
This incident follows another harrowing collision in the UK, where a 17-year-old boy lost his life in a single-vehicle crash involving five teenagers. The fatal accident took place in Lancashire on Jackson Heights Road, a route frequently used by motorists in the area. Responders, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, arrived promptly at the scene, where the male driver was pronounced dead, and the four teenage passengers sustained minor injuries.
Authorities reported that the vehicle veered off the road and landed in an embankment, with the driver found unresponsive at the wheel. The injured teenagers were swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment.
