Amazon’s highly-anticipated MMO game, New World: Aeternum, will cease operations after a six-year run, leaving players with limited time to enjoy the game. Launched in September 2021, the game will officially go offline on January 31, 2027, across all platforms.
Following the announcement by Amazon Games last October that New World: Aeternum would no longer receive updates beyond Season 10: Nighthaven, the decision to shut down the game was made. As of January 15, the game has been delisted, restricting new players from joining, with only existing owners allowed to continue playing for the remaining year.
Although the final season of New World will continue until the closure, players will not be able to make in-game purchases after July 20, 2026. Amazon has assured players that bug fixes will still be addressed until the servers are taken offline.
In a statement, the developers expressed gratitude to the players for their dedication and passion, acknowledging the collaborative effort in creating the world of Aeternum. Despite the sadness of bidding farewell, they are thankful for the shared experience and look forward to a final year together with the community.
Set in the mystical realm of Aeternum, New World immerses players in a battle against supernatural forces known as the ‘Corrupted.’ The game offers a blend of action combat, crafting, exploration, and faction-based PvP, enabling players to forge gear, settlements, and alliances.
While receiving praise for its combat mechanics and world design, New World faced criticism for its narrative and endgame content, resulting in a respectable Metacritic score of 75.
