A recent shocking incident in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, India, has brought attention to the plight of an abandoned newborn baby. The infant was found with a stone in his mouth and his lips sealed with glue, presumably in an attempt to stifle his cries and leave him to perish among rocks and debris. Fortunately, a compassionate cattle herder discovered the helpless child and removed the obstruction, causing the baby to cry immediately.
Quick action was taken as the herder and local villagers rushed the baby to the Bijolia Government Hospital for urgent medical care. Doctors determined the baby to be approximately 15 to 20 days old, with adhesive not only around his mouth but also on his thighs. Authorities suspect that the cruel act of sealing the baby’s mouth with glue and using a stone was to prevent any noise that could attract attention, and are investigating nearby hospitals to identify recent births.
Efforts are underway to locate the infant’s parents, with Rajasthan police conducting interviews in the community. The investigation remains ongoing, and the baby continues to receive medical attention. This distressing incident sheds light on broader issues of child abandonment in India, as similar cases have been reported in various regions recently.
In a separate incident in Chandigarh, a five-month-old girl was found abandoned in bushes by a taxi driver who heard her cry and took her to safety. Another distressing event on the same day in Jharkhand involved a baby being rescued from a drain with fractured hands, but fortunately, the child was reported to be in stable condition after prompt assistance.
Similarly, in Maharashtra, a two-day-old baby was left outside a girls’ orphanage with a bottle, milk powder sachet, and a note citing mental and financial distress as reasons for abandonment. Local residents acted swiftly to ensure the baby received care, highlighting the importance of community involvement in such critical situations.
