“Beware of Sturnus: New Trojan Threatens Android Messaging Apps”

-

A new threat named Sturnus has been identified by cybersecurity experts at Threat Fabric, posing a risk to users of WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal on Android devices. This Trojan, initially discovered by MTI Security researchers, enables hackers to remotely control devices, potentially compromising private chats and sensitive information.

Sturnus allows cybercriminals to monitor user activities, including reading messages, capturing banking credentials, and executing unauthorized transactions by blacking out the device screen. Unlike other malware, Sturnus can bypass encrypted messaging apps, making it a significant threat to users’ privacy and financial security.

Although Sturnus is still in its early stages and has not affected a large number of devices yet, users are advised to remain vigilant. If hackers find a way to distribute it widely, it could pose a serious threat to millions of Android users.

To mitigate the risk of malware attacks like Sturnus, users are recommended to download apps only from the official Google Play Store, avoid sideloading software, and review app ratings before installation. By taking these precautions, users can protect themselves from potential security breaches and safeguard their personal information.
