Boxing legend Ricky Hatton was discovered deceased by hanging, as revealed during an inquest today. Hatton, a former world champion in two weight classes, passed away at his residence in Manchester last month, found by his longtime friend and manager Paul Speak. He was laid to rest recently, with fans lining the streets for his funeral procession before a service at Manchester cathedral.

The inquest, led by coroner Alison Mutch, disclosed that Hatton was found unresponsive in his bedroom by Mr. Speak, who was supposed to accompany him to Dubai for a press event announcing his comeback fight. Hatton, who lived alone, was last seen by family on September 12 in good health. Mr. Speak found him unresponsive on September 14.

Although the full post-mortem results are pending, the initial cause of death was determined as hanging. An official inquest is scheduled for March 20. Despite Hatton’s past struggles with mental health and addiction, his family stated he was in a positive state before his passing.
