Experts Warn Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook Users: Beware Cybercrime

-

Individuals using Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook accounts should pay attention to new guidelines provided by experts at Action Fraud. These guidelines aim to prevent falling victim to cybercrime. One key advice is to pause and evaluate before opening daily emails.

Action Fraud emphasized the importance of stopping if a text or email seems suspicious. Clicking on links or responding to such messages can expose individuals to significant risks.

Cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics, such as sending messages that appear to be from known contacts or creating urgency through threats of fines or account closures.

Recent reports by Mirror Online highlighted fake WhatsApp messages prompting users to vote and scams targeting Amazon account details.

Action Fraud has issued three crucial rules to enhance user safety:

• Avoid responding, clicking links, calling numbers, or making payments

• Verify authenticity by using official contact details, not those provided in the message

• Forward suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk before deleting

Reporting such emails can aid in removing malicious content used for fraudulent activities, as confirmed by Action Fraud.

It is advised to remain cautious and be wary of any emails that raise doubts about their legitimacy.
