Ghislaine Maxwell’s former luxurious residence in New York City has returned to the market with a substantial price tag. Situated on East 65th Street in the Upper East Side of NYC, the property was acquired by Manhattan real estate tycoon Frederick Rudd for $15 million (£11 million) in 2016. Maxwell had agreed to the deal, which was $4 million (£3.7 million) below the initial asking price.
Following Mr. Rudd’s passing at the age of 70 last year, the five-story mansion is now listed for $17.75 million (£13 million). Described in the listing as a “magnificent 1910 Beaux-Arts-style limestone and brick townhouse,” the property is nestled on one of Manhattan’s most desirable tree-lined avenues.
Reported by the New York Post, the listing makes no reference to Maxwell’s previous ownership but highlights the property’s “fully renovated” status. The mansion boasts lofty ceilings, two fireplaces, and white oak flooring, creating an ideal ambiance for elegant gatherings.
The disgraced British socialite, aged 63, received the residence from a lawyer of Jeffrey Epstein in 2000. Maxwell frequently hosted intimate dinners, cocktail parties, and receptions at the property, entertaining distinguished guests such as the president and first lady of Iceland, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and actress Kelly Rutherford.
News of the mansion’s return to the market surfaced alongside exclusive images of Maxwell heading to a yoga class after being relocated to a new detention facility to serve her sentence. This move has sparked outrage among her victims, who were already incensed by her transfer to a cushy prison known as Camp Cupcake just three years into her incarceration.
This decision violated U.S. prison regulations, which prohibit sex offenders from serving time in minimum-security facilities like the Federal Prison Camp Bryan, Texas. Maxwell’s transfer from a dilapidated prison in Tallahassee, Florida, occurred shortly after she spoke favorably about Donald Trump’s well-known association with her former partner, Epstein.
One of Epstein’s survivors has criticized Maxwell’s preferential treatment, stating, “Ghislaine played a role in ruining numerous lives, yet she is now rewarded with a transfer to a luxury prison. This is a disrespectful gesture to the survivors. We bear enduring scars while she engages in yoga and gardens during her sentence, the duration of which now hinges on her ally Trump.”
Maxwell received a 20-year prison sentence in 2022 for aiding Epstein in sexually exploiting underage girls. This stringent sentence marked a victory for a group of women who had long fought for justice after previous prosecutors failed to pursue the predatory duo.
Epstein, who took his own life in 2019 while awaiting trial, perpetrated numerous instances of child sexual abuse over more than a decade, exploiting vulnerable girls as young as 14. Prosecutors asserted that such actions would not have been possible without the assistance of Maxwell, his longtime companion.
Although the sentence fell short of what prosecutors sought, Epstein’s accusers expressed relief at the time. Sarah Ransome, an Epstein victim, remarked, “The road to justice has been arduous for me and many other survivors. This victory is for the voiceless girls who are no longer with us.”
