A horse named Haaland made a remarkable comeback to secure a victory on the racing track. The seven-year-old racehorse, originally from New Zealand and trained in Australia, shares its name with the well-known Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland.
Despite not achieving the same level of success as the Premier League star, Haaland has accumulated two wins, six second-place finishes, and four third-place finishes in 22 career races. Last week, Haaland achieved a significant milestone by clinching its first victory at a metropolitan track in Sandown-Hillside, Victoria, breaking a long winless streak of 800 days.
Under the guidance of jockey and trainer Lucinda Boyd, Haaland won a £25,000 handicap race. Wearing a distinctive green and white-checkered visor, the horse triumphed by a narrow margin, marking Lucinda Boyd’s 118th career win as a jockey and her tenth win since becoming a licensed trainer.
The emotional victory celebration in the winners’ circle included Boyd and her husband Anthony, who jointly manage their stable in Ballarat. Lucinda expressed her joy at Haaland’s win, highlighting the horse’s deserving nature and the hard work put in by their small team.
Lucinda later revealed the challenges Haaland had overcome, including atrial fibrillation and a heart attack during recovery, emphasizing the horse’s incredible resilience and comeback. The victory in a prestigious race was a significant achievement for Haaland, symbolizing its remarkable journey back to success in the racing world.
