Lewis Hamilton has announced the heartbreaking loss of his cherished bulldog, Roscoe. The seven-time Formula 1 champion had been by his loyal companion’s side since Wednesday when he rushed Roscoe to a veterinary clinic after a concerning decline in his health.
On Friday, the situation worsened as Hamilton revealed that Roscoe had slipped into a coma, expressing his worries about his recovery. Hamilton shared on social media the struggles Roscoe faced, mentioning pneumonia and being sedated for medical assessments, which resulted in his heart stopping temporarily.
Despite efforts to revive him, Hamilton sadly revealed that Roscoe, believed to be around 13 years old, had passed away. The racing icon expressed his gratitude for the support and love shown to Roscoe over the years.
Roscoe became a part of Hamilton’s life in 2013 and accompanied him to various F1 races, including those at Silverstone and across Europe. Notably, Roscoe was present during Hamilton’s seventh drivers’ title win in Istanbul, matching Michael Schumacher’s record.
In July at the British Grand Prix, Roscoe made a public appearance alongside Hamilton, marking his debut as a Ferrari driver at a fan event. Despite overcoming pneumonia earlier in the year, Roscoe’s absence was noticeable at the Italian Grand Prix, where Hamilton had hoped to bring him along.
With Hamilton’s global fame, Roscoe gained a significant following on his own Instagram page, boasting 1.3 million followers who mourned his passing. Hamilton opted to stay by Roscoe’s side instead of attending a Pirelli tyre test in Italy, with reserve driver Zhou Guanyu taking his place on the track alongside Charles Leclerc.
