London Mayor Sadiq Khan Slams Trump’s Fear-Mongering

-

London Mayor Sadiq Khan criticized President Donald Trump’s political approach as being centered on fear and division, following reports that Trump had allegedly intervened to prevent Khan from attending a state banquet. Contrary to Trump’s claims, it is understood that Khan neither sought nor anticipated an invitation to the event at Windsor Castle.

Amid their ongoing feud, a source close to Khan condemned Trump for disparaging London, describing the city as a global success story that is open, dynamic, and safer than many major U.S. cities. The source highlighted the increasing number of Americans choosing to reside in London, emphasizing its appeal and safety.

During his return flight on Air Force One after his UK state visit, Trump continued his verbal assault on Khan, labeling him a “disaster” on immigration. Trump criticized Khan’s performance as mayor, citing escalating crime rates in London.

Trump also disclosed that he had personally requested Khan not be present at the state banquet, asserting that Khan had expressed a desire to attend, which Trump opposed.

The animosity between Trump and Khan dates back to Trump’s previous presidency, with Trump challenging Khan to an IQ test in 2016 after Khan criticized his views on Islam. Trump reignited the feud in 2019, branding Khan a “stone cold loser” who should focus on addressing crime in London.

In anticipation of Trump’s visit, Khan accused Trump and his associates of fueling divisive far-right politics globally. In an article for The Guardian coinciding with Trump’s state visit, Khan emphasized the importance of unity in the face of fear-mongering tactics.

As Trump’s state visit unfolds, the ongoing clash between the two figures continues, showcasing the deep divide in their political ideologies and approaches.
