A tragic incident occurred in Blackpool as a man lost his life after a tree branch fell on him in a park. The unfortunate event occurred during strong winds with gusts of up to 70mph in exposed areas, as reported by the Met Office. Emergency services responded to the scene at Revoe Park on Central Drive early on Monday morning but the man had already passed away.
According to a local dog walker, the man had been living in a tent in the park for a few days. The falling branch crushed his small tent and narrowly missed a larger tent where a homeless couple was residing.
Lancashire Police confirmed the incident, stating that the man, in his 40s, was found unresponsive under the fallen tree branch. The authorities are working to locate his next of kin, and his death is not considered suspicious.
The man’s homelessness status has not been officially confirmed by the police. Blackpool Council expressed condolences to the man’s family and friends and expressed a desire to understand the circumstances leading to his presence in the park.
This unfortunate event coincides with severe winds affecting parts of west and south-west England and Wales, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning from Sunday evening until Monday evening.
