O2, the UK mobile network now under Virgin Media, is spreading holiday joy by gifting millions of customers an extra 10GB of mobile data this December. This freebie is automatically added to eligible users’ monthly data allowance, viewable in their account and the MyO2 app during the month. The bonus data has no usage restrictions, allowing for activities like streaming movies, sending photos, and video calling on platforms like FaceTime. This offer is available to all Pay Monthly customers except those already on Unlimited plans or business tariffs. Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, expressed that this data boost aims to facilitate connectivity with loved ones during the festive season. The additional 10GB could translate to approximately 20 hours of video calls, 2,000 streamed songs, or around four and a half hours of HD content on streaming services like Netflix or Disney+. This gesture follows a report by Ofcom showing a 10% increase in UK mobile data consumption in 2025 compared to 2024, totaling 1.2 billion GB monthly. This massive data usage is akin to streaming 400 million HD football matches.
