Piers Morgan Apologizes to Alastair Cook After 11 Years

-

Piers Morgan has publicly apologized to Alastair Cook, retracting his previous derogatory remarks made 11 years ago when he called the former England cricket captain a ‘weasel’. Morgan, who had been a vocal critic of Cook during his leadership, specifically criticized him for his perceived involvement in Kevin Pietersen’s exclusion from the national team in 2013.

Despite initially expressing reluctance to apologize to Cook and former England cricket director Sir Andrew Strauss, Morgan appears to have reconciled with Cook during a joint appearance on The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket program. Morgan explained that his past animosity towards Cook stemmed from his admiration for Pietersen’s talent and disappointment in how Pietersen’s career with England abruptly ended.

Acknowledging his past behavior, Morgan admitted that his criticism towards Cook was excessive and unwarranted. He expressed regret over his previous comments, stating, “I’m sorry for the 38 weasel references.” Cook, on the other hand, continued his cricket career for an additional five years after Pietersen’s departure, amassing an impressive record of 12,472 test runs and 33 centuries.

Reflecting on the aftermath of Pietersen’s exit, Cook has described it as one of the most challenging periods in his cricketing journey. The duo’s reconciliation marks a significant turn of events from Morgan’s initial stance, highlighting a newfound understanding and respect between the two personalities.
