“Poundland Closes Stores in Restructuring Sale”

-

Poundland has recently closed numerous stores as part of a significant business restructuring following its sale to an investment firm for just £1. The budget retailer, which previously operated 800 branches, anticipates reducing its store count to approximately 650-700 due to a combination of closures and expiring leases.

The closure of Poundland stores is ongoing, with 23 locations slated for shutdown and clearance sales offering discounts of up to 40%. Some of the affected areas include Burnley, Leicester, and Glasgow. While the Livingston store was initially set to close on October 12, it will now remain operational after reaching new lease terms with the landlord.

Although Poundland had announced the closure of 68 stores after the acquisition by Gordon Brothers, a subsequent update revealed the cancellation of 11 planned closures. The retailer is introducing a simplified pricing structure across its UK stores, with approximately 60% of groceries priced at £1, 20% at £2, and 20% at £3 under the new system.

Additionally, Poundland has ceased its loyalty app, Poundland Perks, but will honor existing vouchers until January 15, 2026. The company’s retail director, Darren MacDonald, expressed gratitude to customers affected by store closures, emphasizing continued operations at hundreds of Poundland stores nationwide.

Furthermore, Poundland has updated its website to focus on product browsing only, discontinuing online purchasing. Customers can expect enhanced value offerings and special discounts as part of the store closure process, ensuring a positive farewell experience before transitioning to other Poundland locations.
