“Rugby Icon Lewis Moody Diagnosed with MND”

-

Geoff Burrow, the father of the late Rob Burrow, expressed his solidarity with Lewis Moody following the announcement of the England rugby icon’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND). Moody, aged 47, shared the distressing news during a poignant interview.

Joining the ranks of former rugby stars affected by the degenerative muscle-wasting illness, Moody’s situation echoes the tragic losses of rugby figures Doddie Weir and Burrow. The latter valiantly fought the condition for five years before succumbing at 41 years old in June last year.

Moody’s emotional disclosure highlighted his apprehensions about the future, prompting Geoff to offer words of encouragement. Geoff shared a fundraising link for Moody and his family, emphasizing the importance of supporting them through this challenging period.

The fundraiser aims to raise approximately £130,000 to aid Moody and his loved ones. Describing Moody’s resilience, the GoFundMe page underscores his positive outlook and adaptation to the changes ahead.

Geoff referenced the successful charity efforts of Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield, who raised substantial funds and awareness for the cause before Burrow’s passing. Both were awarded CBEs for their philanthropic work and advocacy against the disease.

In a poignant twist, Prince William surprised Burrow and Sinfield at Headingley Stadium, where they once played for Leeds Rhinos. Moody, on the other hand, shared his diagnosis candidly in an emotional interview with the BBC, expressing his current struggle to confront the future.

A key figure in England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup victory, Moody played alongside renowned players like Johnny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson. His illustrious career included 71 appearances for England over a decade, as well as domestic triumphs with Leicester and Bath.
