An individual with over 300,000 followers on social media has been apprehended under suspicion of committing a homicide following 16 years of evading authorities. Reinaldo da Silva Melo, the suspect wanted for the killing of Fábio Gomes da Silva in December 2009, was discovered in a remote area of Brazil. Authorities revealed that the alleged murder was driven by a desire for retaliation as Melo believed Fábio was linked to the death of his father in 2004.
The crime took place in Paulo Ramos, situated north of Brasilia, Brazil, where Melo disappeared into the wilderness, managing to elude capture for more than fifteen years. Despite being on the run, he managed to get married and raise three children, establishing himself as an influencer known as the ‘King of Juquira’. Melo gained popularity by showcasing his expertise in harvesting juquira crops in the Amazon region through videos that offered glimpses into his agricultural work and lifestyle on the farm.
His social media content portrayed his life as a farmer, humorously depicting field-clearing activities with a scythe and integrating rural culture elements. Garnering a substantial following of over 317,000 fans on Instagram and 283,000 followers on TikTok, Melo managed to evade law enforcement until his recent arrest in the rural area of Olho d’Água das Cunhãs by the Bacabal Civil Police.
Currently detained by authorities, the influencer has posted a message on his social media accounts, stating that legal proceedings are underway to clarify the situation. The note reassured followers that his defense team is actively addressing the legal matters, expressing confidence in the justice system and appreciating the supportive messages received.
The Maranhão Civil Police have confirmed the individual’s custody status but have not disclosed further details. A police statement indicated that following necessary legal procedures at the police station, the suspect has been transferred to a local prison pending further investigation.
