New distressing information regarding the final actions of Jay Slater has come to light, with one individual disclosing a pivotal mistake made before his fatal fall.
The 19-year-old, hailing from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was on his inaugural solo trip to Tenerife without his parents when he disappeared following a night out in July of the previous year.
After reveling at a party, the teenager ventured to an Airbnb in the secluded village of Masca on the Spanish island alongside two acquaintances he had met during his vacation.
Subsequently, he contacted his friend Lucy Law to indicate he was disoriented and later informed another friend, Bradley Geoghegan, that he had missed transportation and was trekking back – a 14km journey to his lodging in Los Cristianos. Regrettably, he never reached his destination.
During the inquest held in July, Coroner Dr. James Adeley determined that Jay met his demise accidentally by plunging into a remote ravine within the Rural de Teno national park. His remains were discovered by a search and rescue team on July 15, 2024, 29 days after his disappearance.
Toxicology analyses also revealed the presence of ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine, and alcohol in Jay’s system at the time of his passing.
The nation was captivated by the teenager’s vanishing act, as various unfounded theories circulated widely until Jay’s body was located. The online conjecture proved distressing for Jay’s grieving mother, Debbie Duncan, who asserts that it obstructed the investigative process.
Now, a forthcoming documentary is poised to illuminate Jay’s final moments, with a journalist retracing the tragic teen’s steps in Tenerife unveiling a poignant turn of events that led to Jay’s demise.
In an article for the Sunday Times, journalist David Collins shared: “I followed the same path as Jay, starting from the Airbnb entrance, veering left onto a winding mountain road leading into perilous terrain. This proved to be Jay’s critical misstep.
“Had he opted to turn right and descend the hill, it would have guided him back to civilization through a mountain hamlet equipped with eateries, transport services, and taxis. Instead, he veered off-course at some point, descending into a ravine.”
Expressing her reservations, Jay’s grieving mother, Debbie Duncan, lamented how baseless theories surrounding his demise impeded the police investigation, with misleading footage continuously surfacing online. She remarked: “My son was dehumanized in every way. It was all utterly inaccurate.
“He was merely a young man reveling in
