“UN Security Council Convenes Urgent Meeting on Russian Airspace Violation”

-

The United Nations has urgently convened a Security Council meeting in response to the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian MIG-31 jets. The unauthorized entry occurred over Vaindloo Island, where the aircraft remained for 12 minutes. This action prompted the UN to schedule a meeting for tomorrow at 10 am to address the breach.

Estonia’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, condemned the incident, accusing Russia of compromising Estonia’s territorial integrity. This marked the first time in Estonia’s 34-year history that an emergency Security Council meeting was formally requested.

NATO confirmed intercepting the Russian jets and denounced the violation as another instance of reckless behavior by Russia. Estonia’s Prime Minister, Kristen Michal, mentioned the possibility of invoking NATO’s Article 4 for discussions on territorial security threats. US President Donald Trump also expressed concern over the incident, stating that he would be briefed on the matter shortly.

Following the escalation, Russian diplomats were summoned by Estonia’s Foreign Minister for discussions. The international community is closely monitoring the situation as tensions escalate.
