A significant agreement between the US and UK is poised to usher in a new era for nuclear power, with proposals to construct new facilities that could potentially create up to 2,500 job opportunities in Teesside.
As anticipation builds for Donald Trump’s upcoming state visit, Keir Starmer highlighted that the deal with Washington will greatly accelerate the development of nuclear power plants in both nations.
The UK is actively promoting the generation of clean, domestically sourced energy to shield its citizens from energy price spikes triggered by events like Russia’s incursion into Ukraine.
An upcoming pact set to be finalized this week will streamline the process for companies to construct new nuclear power stations in both countries, reducing the licensing timeframe from around three to four years to just two years.
Major forthcoming agreements include X-Energy and Centrica’s blueprint to establish up to 12 advanced modular reactors in Hartlepool, a project that could supply electricity to approximately 1.5 million households and open up around 2,500 employment opportunities.
Prime Minister expressed, “These significant commitments pave the way for a prosperous era in nuclear power that will lead to reduced household expenses in the long term, while creating numerous jobs in the short term.”
