President Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating granting a Presidential pardon to P Diddy. The rapper and music mogul was sentenced to four years and two months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
Diddy, aged 55, has been incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York City, since September last year. He has requested to complete the remainder of his sentence in a different prison.
Recent reports suggest that President Donald Trump is considering pardoning the disgraced musician. A pardon would provide legal forgiveness for a federal crime, lifting the punishment and restoring various rights, such as the right to vote.
Sources indicate that Trump has been indecisive in discussions with White House staff, with some advising against commuting the sentence. Despite this, it is believed that Trump will make the final decision independently. TMZ reported that Diddy might have been released this week.
A White House spokesperson vehemently denied the rumors, stating that there is no truth to the TMZ report. The President has the ultimate authority on pardons and commutations. Trump had confirmed earlier that Diddy had requested a pardon but did not confirm if he would grant it.
Efforts to obtain comments from Diddy’s legal team and public relations representatives regarding Trump’s statements have been made. Diddy’s lawyers are hopeful that a transfer to a lower-security prison in New Jersey will aid in his rehabilitation.
Diddy was imprisoned under the federal Mann Act, which prohibits interstate transportation for sexual crimes. Despite facing severe charges, he was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering, which could have led to a life sentence.
With time already served in jail, Diddy’s upcoming release may occur in approximately three years. In a letter to the judge before sentencing, Diddy expressed his commitment to remaining drug-free and peaceful, portraying a spiritual transformation.
Diddy has been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024. The time spent there will be deducted from his sentence, potentially leading to his release in about three years.
