Donald Trump’s official helicopter had to land urgently in the UK due to a hydraulic problem at the conclusion of his state visit. The President and First Lady Melania Trump were traveling on Marine One back to the US when the pilot made the emergency landing. The White House stated that the helicopter landed at a local airfield as a precaution after detecting a minor hydraulic issue. The couple then boarded another helicopter to continue their journey from the Prime Minister’s country home at Chequers to Stansted airport, where Air Force One awaited them.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the situation, mentioning that the pilots landed at the nearby airfield due to the hydraulic issue to ensure safety. Trump and the First Lady then transferred to the support helicopter without any issues.
Although Trump’s arrival was delayed by approximately 20 minutes, the reason for the delay was not disclosed by the White House before takeoff.
During the final day of Trump’s state visit, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the joint efforts of the UK and US to pressure Vladimir Putin to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine. Trump expressed disappointment in Putin for escalating attacks on Ukraine, calling the situation the “easiest” to resolve.
While the day proceeded mostly smoothly, differences emerged between Trump and UK officials. Trump suggested addressing illegal migration with military intervention and criticized wind power as costly, advocating for the exploitation of North Sea oil and gas resources. He also disagreed with the UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state.
