Amazon has officially announced the arrival of Alexa+ in the UK for users of Echo smart speakers. This upgraded version of the popular voice assistant, which was launched in the US last year, allows for more conversational interactions with Alexa. Users can now personalize their experience by teaching Alexa their preferences, routines, music choices, reading preferences, and food likes and dislikes.
Alexa+ adapts its tone based on the context of the conversation, becoming more cheerful, for example, when discussing a favorite sports team’s victory. This personalization ensures that users receive tailored recommendations when asking for movie suggestions, recipes, or sports updates.
In addition to enhanced conversational capabilities, Alexa+ offers practical features such as building shopping lists, price tracking, delivery alerts, and product comparisons through online reviews. Users can easily control smart home devices by voice commands, such as adjusting lighting or creating custom Routines without the need to open the Alexa app.
Furthermore, Alexa+ simplifies the management of whole-home speaker setups, allowing users to direct music playback to specific areas of their home effortlessly. The platform is designed to understand British users as well as it does American users, offering a seamless experience for UK customers.
Meryem Tom, Director of Alexa UK, emphasized the importance of capturing the nuances of British communication styles in developing Alexa+ for the UK market. Amazon reassures users about data privacy, stating that Alexa+ is designed with privacy and security in mind. The Alexa Privacy dashboard allows users to manage their interactions with Alexa, providing transparency and control over data sharing and storage.
Interested users can access Alexa+ through an Early Access offer, with Prime members receiving free access. After the Early Access period, the subscription will cost £19.99 per month. Amazon plans to gradually invite hundreds of thousands of customers to experience Alexa+ in the UK in the upcoming weeks.
