Daily Paper, now a renowned fashion brand worth £25 million with a global presence, had humble beginnings as a small blog managed by friends Jefferson Osei, Abderrahmane Trabsini, and Hussein Suleiman in Amsterdam.

Established in 2008, the blog, predating the influencer era, aimed to showcase their Ghanaian, Moroccan, and Somali heritage, reflecting their shared cultural backgrounds.

Jefferson Osei, one of the co-founders, highlighted at the Black Tech Fest how their cultural roots inspired the brand’s inception, further elaborating in an exclusive interview with The Mirror.

During a panel discussion on October 9th, 2025, Jeff reminisced, “Initially, it was a blog focusing on Amsterdam’s creative scene, showcasing exhibitions and events, and capturing the essence of young talents through our platform.”

Transitioning from promoting the blog with printed T-shirts, the trio recognized the potential to expand into clothing design and sales, witnessing a shift from their initial blog concept.

Their distinctive designs, characterized by bold graphics and vibrant colors, diverged from the prevailing minimalist streetwear trend, offering a contemporary representation of African heritage in response to the prevailing fashion landscape.

As demand surged, they ventured offline with pop-up stores across Europe, fostering a closer connection with their community and paving the way for permanent retail locations in Amsterdam, London, and New York.

Beyond being a fashion powerhouse, Daily Paper’s mission extends to reshaping perceptions of Africa, aiming to depict the continent in a more positive light.

Jeff emphasized the need to challenge stereotypical portrayals of Africa rooted in folklore and poverty, asserting Daily Paper’s commitment to showcasing a different narrative through their brand.

Their journey also includes hosting pop-up events in Ghana during the Year of Return, emphasizing the beauty and vibrancy of the country to dispel negative perceptions, reflecting a personal connection to culture instilled in Jeff by his upbringing.
