Labour conference asks Owen Jones to leave citing safeguarding concerns

-

Journalist Owen Jones has been asked to leave the Labour conference due to safeguarding concerns raised by the party. A known supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, Jones criticized Labour for what he called “Trumpian behavior” and expressed surprise as his pass had never been revoked before.

In a statement shared on social media, Jones condemned the party’s decision, stating that his pass was canceled on the grounds of questioning Cabinet members and MPs about Britain’s role in supporting Israel’s actions, which he deemed as a safeguarding issue. He highlighted his long history of filming videos at Labour and Tory Conferences, aiming to pose questions that mainstream media often avoids asking, emphasizing this was the first time his pass had been rescinded.

Responding to Jones, the Labour party clarified its stance in an email, reiterating that the decision was made based on safeguarding considerations to ensure the safety and well-being of all conference attendees. The party emphasized its responsibility to maintain a secure and inclusive environment for everyone present.

While Jones is no longer allowed at the current conference, he retains the option to reapply for a pass in upcoming years. The party stressed that the decision was made with the welfare of all individuals in mind.
