EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service, aimed at combating the increasing number of scams that target mobile users. Statistics reveal that millions of pounds are lost daily in the UK due to cyber fraud, with scammers using various tactics to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive information. The upgraded Scam Guard is now available to all EE pay-monthly mobile customers for a monthly fee of £2, offering improved protection against fraudulent activities.
Since its initial launch in 2024, Scam Guard has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the new version, EE anticipates doubling this figure over the next year. The core feature of the upgraded Scam Guard is the AI Triple-Lock Protection, comprising Safe Email, Safe SMS, and Safe Web functionalities powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. Safe Email provides proactive scam protection for email accounts, while Safe SMS detects sophisticated scams in text messages, ensuring real-time protection for users. Additionally, Safe Web safeguards customers from online scams while shopping or browsing, preemptively blocking malicious websites.
The latest Scam Guard upgrade also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious content for immediate evaluation. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring functionalities keep a close watch on potential threats across users’ online activities, issuing timely alerts for prompt action. Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of evolving security measures amid the rising fraud landscape, stating that the enhanced Scam Guard service underscores EE’s commitment to providing top-tier cyber protection for its customers.
