The final images captured by CCTV showing Jay Slater before his death will be featured in a forthcoming documentary on Channel 4. The documentary aims to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding Jay’s passing and dispel various speculations circulating on social media.
Jay Slater, a 19-year-old resident of Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, went missing on June 17, 2024, triggering an extensive search operation that led to the discovery of his body near Masca village on July 15.
Following Jay’s disappearance in the summer of 2024, online interest surged rapidly, fueling conspiracy theories and sparking a social media frenzy driven by amateur sleuths. The case garnered worldwide attention, with an excess of 30 million online videos speculating about Jay’s whereabouts.
The upcoming Channel 4 documentary will showcase the last CCTV footage of Jay, coupled with messages he sent during his final hours. The footage captures Jay at Papagayo Nightclub at 11:55 pm and leaving the venue at 01:04 am. Subsequently, at 1:12 am, he was denied re-entry into the club, and CCTV footage shows a doorman gesturing towards something in the distance.
At 2:40 am, Jay messaged his friends, mentioning trouble getting back into Papagayo, to which a friend replied at 2:48 am offering to assist him. Jay’s response at 2:49 am indicated that he was undeterred and on a personal mission. The last known sighting of Jay on CCTV was at Tramps Nightclub at 3:07 am, after which he presumably left the premises and met his unfortunate fate later that morning.
According to a coroner’s report from July, Jay informed his friends that he was stranded in mountainous terrain and in need of a drink while attempting a daunting 14-hour journey home after consuming drugs and alcohol the previous night.
