A British traveler was deported from Morocco after facing issues with Ryanair staff who allegedly prevented her from retrieving her passport left on the plane. Rebecca McCurry, along with three friends, had just landed in Marrakesh when she realized her passport was still on the aircraft. Despite her immediate realization, she was not allowed to return to the plane to get it.
According to Rebecca, Ryanair staff informed her that they had conducted a search of the plane and did not find the passport. However, she later learned that passengers on the return flight discovered the passport exactly where she had left it. Rebecca, who suffers from chronic pain, described her experience with border police as stressful, leading to multiple incidents of passing out during the questioning.
After enduring three hours of interrogation, Rebecca was left at a fast-food restaurant to await her deportation to Manchester Airport. It took her an additional month of follow-up to finally retrieve her passport in August. She shared her ordeal as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the importance of always keeping essential documents close at hand to avoid potential travel complications.
Ryanair acknowledged the incident, stating that the passenger had misplaced her passport onboard and was consequently denied entry into Morocco. The airline ensured the passenger was accommodated on a return flight to the UK on the same day. They reiterated that passengers are responsible for carrying valid travel documents and that lost items are handed over to airport lost and found offices.
The Office National des Aroports in Morocco was contacted for comment on the matter.
